We try to say what we actually believe, plainly, and without a lot of hedging.
We believe God is love. Not as a metaphor, as a fact we try to live by. And we believe God is for people, not against them. That's the whole thing, really. Everything else grows from there.
We follow Jesus, the one who ate with the wrong people, touched the untouchable, and kept saying that the last would be first. We take his example seriously. We don't always do it well. We keep trying.
We believe God didn't leave when Jesus did. The Spirit is present, in this room, in this community, in the moments when something shifts and you can't quite explain why. We pay attention to that.
We read the Bible as the story of God's love and grace as revealed through the life of Christ. We take it seriously. We also read it honestly, as a human document written across centuries, pointing toward something true.
We believe faith is more verb than noun. We are called to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, care for the sick, and mend what is broken, in Pagosa Springs and beyond. We believe that using our time, money, and talents in service of others is not optional. It is the point.
We believe in forgiveness over judgment. We have all needed it. We try to extend it freely.
We believe prayer works. We don't always understand how. We do it anyway.
We believe that when you truly embrace the full diversity of human beings, you embrace God. All are fully welcome here, regardless of race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender, occupation, or station in life. We mean that. Not as a policy. As a conviction.
